Sports and Cultural Immersion Programme to Perth, Australia - Day 1

The girls ready for check in at Changi Airport Terminal 3.
Here we come, Perth!

Our first stop after lunch was a visit to the Western Australia Institute of Sports (WAIS). The WAIS includes training facilities such as the WAIS Gymnastics Centre, the Aquatic Centre and the Western Australia Athletics Centre for athletes in Australia.
We were guided around the facility by Gymnastics Western Australian gymnast, Olivia Vivian. Olivia shared with the girls the different aspects of her training and inspired us with her passion in gymnastics as she devotes about 30 hours a week training for the various competitions such as the Commonwealth Games. Here in this picture, Olivia was showing us the actual distance of the world record for Long Jump (Women).

At the WAIS, we were also shown the Recovery Centre that athletes make use of to aid their recovery through Cold/ Hot Water Contrast Immersion. The temperature of the cold bath is about 12 degrees celsius. Look at the expressions of the girls upon touching the cold water with their hands.

We will be starting our Sports and Cultural Immersion programme at Mosman Primary School tomorrow and we are looking forward to the day. We will have more pictures and stories about our experiences tomorrow.
